Shinigami Keycaps allowed me to merge my passion for sculpting with the world of mechanical keyboards, creating premium, hand-painted keycaps.

This project utilizes my skills to transform detailed sketches into precise, sculpted forms ready for painting. Using both airbrush and traditional brush techniques, the result is an artisan keycap that enhances the aesthetic of your mechanical keyboards.

I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of form and function. When I discovered the world of mechanical keyboards, I knew I had found my next creative challenge.

That’s how Shinigami Keycaps was born. A brand dedicated to creating premium, hand-painted keycaps for mechanical keyboards.

From Sketch to Sculpture

It begins with a detailed sketch, which is then sculpted in ZBrush to capture the desired form and style. The base of the keycap is modeled in Fusion 360 to ensure it fits perfectly into the key switch.

Once I have the working 3D print, I begin painting the keycap. I use a combination of airbrush and brush techniques to bring it to life.

This is where the keycap truly shines. I take great care to ensure every detail is captured and every color is vibrant and true to the original design.

Showcasing the Final Product: Product Shots, Mockups and Posters 📸

One of the most satisfying moments was seeing the finished keycap in all its glory. From the glossy finish to the subtle textures, every aspect of the keycap is captured. I created mockups and posters of my designs to give more volume to the concept.

Learning from Failure and Sharing my Tools 🔧

Despite the fun and value of this endeavor, it did not perform well in the market. However, I always try to see the positive in every failure and share what I can.

Throughout this project, I created some tools that helped me make the keycaps, and I hope these tools will assist others with similar projects as well.
